| The family has 4 people and currently rents accommodation. The older child is 5, and the younger is Anh Thư. Finances are difficult; they have only 2 sao (a traditional Vietnamese unit of land area) of land, so both of the 2 parents take extra hired work when available. The husband, Nông Văn Chành, repairs motorbikes. The authorities have not granted the family poor-household status. The child's illness was detected at 5 months; at 11 months she began blood transfusions, continuing 1 time every 1 month, and she is now 28 months old. She also has an enlarged liver and spleen after repeated transfusions, and grade 1/4 regurgitation of the 3-leaflet tricuspid valve. The family is currently staying in someone else's house and plans to rent a home to make it easier for Anh Thư to attend school. Travel for treatment costs around 700–800k/month. |
