A mother in Phú Yên and her 3 children “befriend” a life-threatening blood disease

It was 13:45 — in the heat of Central Vietnam — when a sincere voice came from the other end of the phone. I listened to that voice, a tone perhaps as true as her heaven-given name — Ms. Thật — the mother of three children undergoing treatment and growing each day with the determination to overcome a congenital condition known as a “life-threatening blood disease.”

The woman from Phú Yên, who has struggled to raise her 3 children since her husband passed away, shared: “A few months after my first child was born, we learned that the child had this disease. I was very sad, but what could I do? All I hope is for my child to grow up healthy and get a proper education like other children. That would make me happy.”

Ms. Thật spoke sincerely and from the heart, without self-pity or excessive anguish over her circumstances. Perhaps somewhere within her lies a firm resilience and a powerful belief in the health of her 3 children. That kind energy quietly continues to nurture them, allowing us to see Thái, Trâm, and their youngest sibling Thạo growing healthier and happier each day. This is good news for the Fund, the supporters and Companions alongside the family, and everyone who cares about the children, wishing them to live as healthily as so many others — healthy in body, heart, and mind.

No words can describe the joy of hearing the three siblings laughing and playing over the phone. Thái is in grade 8 this year, hoping to become an exemplary eldest brother and a footballer — a wonderful, inspiring dream. Trâm (Thái's younger sibling) has only just entered grade 5, yet carries immense love for others, hoping to become a good doctor who treats poor people for free. It was deeply moving to hear a child express this, with overwhelming happiness and joy in every word.

Since then, we believe these children did not come into this world merely to experience misfortune; they are truly greater and stronger than their present circumstances, with pure wishes and boundless love. Perhaps this, too, is part of their mission in this world?

Thái and Trâm are currently 2 of the 16 child patients whom Angel Legs Dream Foundation is providing ongoing support for monthly treatment costs. Thạo is currently in fairly good health, so the Fund is monitoring the situation with the family and considering additional assistance as needed. On behalf of the Fund, we share this article and send our love to the children, wishing them healthy, peaceful, and happy lives as they grow!

Community members interested in helping can contact the Fund to provide 1-to-1 companionship for Thái and Trâm or other child patients for 6 months or 1 year. Support for each child totals 12–24 million/year, requiring a monthly transfer of just 1–2 million. This is also each child's average monthly medical treatment cost.
