| FAMILY CIRCUMSTANCES | ||
| The family's account: “I'm currently raising Kiến Long and Phi Long (5 years old, Kiến Long's younger sibling) as a single mother, living with their elderly maternal grandparents. In 01/2017, the child became ill, and the paternal family helped pay the hospital fees for the first course of chemotherapy, consisting of 5 rounds of medication. Chemotherapy ended in 03/2018, but 3 months later, the doctor reported a relapse and said the child had to be hospitalized urgently for a second course of chemotherapy (10 rounds) and radiotherapy. At that point, the paternal family could no longer provide support, so the family pooled their savings, borrowed from relatives, and received help from benefactors so the child could complete the second course in 05/2019. The child hoped that after chemotherapy, they could go to school happily with peers, while I returned to work to earn money for follow-up visits and repay our loans. But after only a few days at school, the child developed a fever and had to be hospitalized (each admission costs over 15 million). The doctor said the child was still too weak to attend school, so I had to stay home to provide care, as the grandparents were too old to do so. I hope the child can complete the treatment protocol and have a life like other children.” | ||
